Coming up at 11, not wearing a HRM could kill you

OK, that is a bit melodramatic. However, as this article over at CRN explains, it's not too far off the mark. I know I don't wear a heart rate monitor as often as I should, and I have an abnormal heart rhythm. It's either called AV nodal reentrant tachycardia [AVNRT] or paroxysmal supra ventricular tachycardia [PSVT], depending on which cardiologist you believe. In addition to helping to keep you in the zone, these little gizmos apparently can save your life. I have an entry level, very basic Polar model that doesn't even have a watch function.

I should know better. I knew a woman in college who died while running the 1989 or 1990 Marine Corps marathon from a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect.

Scary.
