Registered for the Triple Crown

ORN: 3.57 miles in 40:00. 'Twas rainy and 59° in the River City today. I came back from my run moderately sore and soaked. It was a bad run. I had pain and tightness in my lower legs causing me to run very slowly again. Still, I got to run along a moving train. That was interesting.

Today I sent off my registration for the Louisville Triple Crown of Running, which is composed of three races held on alternate Saturdays in March starting on the first:I'm pretty excited about this because these are three of the five races I plan on running this year. I've decided to cut back on racing monthly, like I have tried to do since I started running, and instead I plan to run just the two half-marathons [the Derby Mini and the Louisville Half] and the Triple Crown.

It's not that I don't enjoy racing. But the 5Ks were getting a little boring and costly. Once I ran the Louisville Half Marathon, the thought of running just a 5K seemed like a whole lot of trouble for not much payoff. Having that medal placed around my neck was a sweet, sweet experience. Merely getting a dinky cotton t-shirt and some granola coupons in a plastic bag does not compare.

I've never done the Triple Crown before. Word on the street is that they are huge -- thousands of runners.

No playlist today. I wrapped my iPod in a baggy to keep it out of the rain. I don't know how water-tolerant it is.

  1. I agree -- I'm going to do maybe one 5k this year and that's just so I can break 20 minutes. If you look at the cost/mile, it's more cost efficient to run longer races! Especially if you have to drive at all.

Gosh, don't you love the medals? Medals and trophies, that's what it's all about. =D
