ORN: Today I sped through 5.0 miles in 50'14". I had to check the record books to make sure it wasn't a PR, but alas, I've apparently run five miles more quickly, but it's been since March. I'm claiming the victory because my training has been rather off lately.
My mind is in a hundred different places, and I'm not giving my running the energy it deserves. I need the various benefit running gives me now more than ever. For example, I am aggressively trying to find a new job. That's a project taking up a lot of psychic energy. My current job is kinda busy right now, too, so I have those issues simmering on my mental stove. We're buying a car, we're shopping around for a camper, and kindergarten is still a new adventure for everyone. And I need to schedule a date for Wifey and I. I feel like I have a ton of balls in the air. I know running helps me cope with all the stress, and so I need to be out on the streets... not in my living room playing God of War.
I should running more rather than less and as planned. Now is not a time to be inconsistent. [To my credit, I did "cross train" for about an hour last night to some Dance Dance Revolution.] For one thing, I have the Louisville Half Marathon coming up next month. For another, as I mentioned before, I need to be at my sharpest right now. I need ideas, creativity, patience, stamina, willpower, energy, and internal serenity. Running does that for me.
Today, as I was plodding along, my mind was racing back and forth over ideas, interview strategies, companies I could work for, people I need to contact, and so forth. It's seldom ever so active when I'm not running. When I run, my mind goes into a highly creative mode, especially when I run without headphones.
I'm kicking myself for not doing my long run this weekend.
Tomorrow, I need to do another five.
I hope this cool weather sticks around.
Oh me too - I love, love, love this cool weather. Sweaters are great for covering up the buddha belly - not to mention that it's also great for running in. Good luck in the 1/2 next month
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine once blew out a hamstring while playing DDR. Got to be careful.
ReplyDelete-the belfry
Running is cheap therapy - so take advantage!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a master juggler-of-all-things too.....hang in there and you'll get your running groove back ;)
Nice job on the 5 miles - PR or not!
