I ran across (puns always intended) this post on the Complete Running Network on how to Get Out the Door, and it could not be more timely for me. I have not run in a week. My stated excuse is that I have had a cough that I do not want to worsen into a full blown cold. I'm not healthy, but I'm not quite sick yet. For instance, I've not missed work, but I have skipped runs. So really I have no excuse. I could be out there, leaving a trail of expectorated lung butter behind me, without actually catching pneumonia.
The advice Aaron (the above blogger) gives is sound. I have no problems any of it. My current problem is the same problem I have when I am trying to instill any new habit -- missing a day turns into missing a week, which turns into a month, etc. Before I know it, the habit is dead. One could say that having been on the road since July, I ought to have a habit burned in my brain already. One could also say that I am just being a pussy but skipping my runs. These things and more have been running across my mind every night for a week now as the time draws closer to 21:00 or 22:00, my mental line in the sand, thereafter it is too late to run. I am the king of negative self talk, especially when it comes to running.
What other ideas do you have for dragging one's lazy ass out the door? Please. I'm dying over here.
Just drag you a$$ out the door becasue I told you to! I find that once I'm out there the excuses go away until the next day at least. Have a good one. I just added you link to the RBF, now your in there you HAVE to run:)
ReplyDeleteAh yes, and other RBFers are finding you, to hold you accountable :)
ReplyDeleteIf you can, find a running group near you and start showing up once a week or so. It's easier to get out when you've got buddies waiting for you.
Hope your cold goes away soon!
