ORN: 5K in a speedy 31:16. I say speedy because I walked at least twice and still got that time. I was running at a sub-6 minute/km pace for the first 2 km before the heat and humidity started getting to me. I kept saying to myself, "At least it isn't raining," in order to game Mother Nature into dropping a few cooling drops on my head; however, she's a wise, old broad and ain't nobody's fool. She'll wait until I'm walking home from the bus stop to drop her buckets.
Today's run was the first in a long time. My motivation level has been near zero, so in desperation, I brought my gear to work and pledged to run during the heat of the day. Either that will a) encourage me to run in the lovely, cool mornings, b) encourage me to run in the tranquil, mild evenings, or c) kill me. In any case, I will be running. Or dead.
Diet-wise, I've been making some improvements. This morning I had some hot oat bran with some slivered almonds. For lunch I had a Weight Watchers vegetable/marinara spaghetti dinner, some yogurt, green beans, and an apple. I drank about a quart of water before running. Input = awesome. Output = awesome.
Cross-training-wise, I sat on the exercise ball last night and watched Re-Animator, which I strongly recommend to any and all. On the ball, I did about 100 crunches over the course of the last hour of the movie and some other core-building exercises.
I'm trying.

I watched the season finale of The Shield as I worked on the fitness ball - I will check out the movie. The rain totally zaps my motivation and energy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by. You've probably heard about the notion of using a fitness ball as an office/desk chair. The idea being that the effort to stay upright actually burns some calories and tones your "core" more than passively sitting in a typical chair. I've been debating replacing my office chair, but I fear looking like a bigger dork than usual. I think I will use it more when I watch TV, though. Wifey and my daughter know I'm a huge dork, so there's no need to put on airs.
