Begin trainForHalfMarathon()

ORN: x_X

Saturday morning, my alarm woke me, and as soon as my old enemy, Consciousness, slapped me in the face with its +1 Trout of Unkindness, I felt stabbing pains in my lower back. I thought better of running my planned three miler. In fact, I thought better of getting up and turning off my alarm, choosing instead to wait for it to quit of its own volition. [I use a digital watch. It gives up after "snoozing" once for five minutes.] About an hour later, I got out of bed to swallow a handful of ibuprofen and then returned to the sack. About half an hour later, my four-year-old awoke wanting to start her day. Since only pneumonia or plague excuses me from child care duty on the weekends, I got up and waited for the ibuprofen to start working.

I hit the Motrin™ pipe once or twice more on Saturday, thinking erroneously that surely I would feel better Sunday morning. I did not. The pain was less, but I still felt as though Lilliputians were using my back as a step-class studio and wearing golf cleats. I ran not a step on Sunday.

Today, Monday, is the first day of my scheduled "pre-training" for the Louisville Half Marathon, scheduled for October 21st. I have five weeks of pre-training before the training schedule actually starts ramping up. I'm supposed to be comfortable running the pre-training schedule, which I assume means actually completing it at least once. It's only 19 miles. I cannot seem to be able to get my stuff together enough to do it, though. Either my body or my laziness gets the best of me.

We'll see what happens, I guess.
