ORN: 3 miles in 30:43, which is a 10:12 per mile pace. Not bad. Not much to say about the run itself other than that the river is up and the weather was cold and gloomy. I ran east instead of west on the Riverwalk, so I caught a glimpse of the Belle of Louisville, Waterfront Park, and other riparian attractions. Some ducks wondered what was chasing me.
By some mysterious function of bodily thermodynamics, I managed to wind up with a half-pound loss today, which brings me down to a feathery 12.75 stone. My BMI is now under 26, which means that I am no longer considered overweight -- merely flabby. This miracle comes in spite of Cheese Ball Day yesterday and a Qdoba dinner last night. In any case I'm calling it a win for me.
This weekend is supposed to be cold and rainy [of course] with the possibility of snow or sleet. Around these parts, that's what they call a wintry mix. Me, I wonder why we are turning into a less interesting, less pub-filled version of the British Isles. Seriously, it's been rainy and drab for so long, I wonder when we are going to start playing cricket, referring to trucks as lorries, and going to war with France.
Global warming be damned: This is going to be a long winter.
How this crappy weather is relevant to our purposes here is that I plan to do my long run Saturday morning, prime time for this much-feared wintry mix. Since my ancestors came from the land of the ice and snow, From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow, winter weather would not be a problem for me, except that I do not have adequate gear for wet weather. I have cold weather running gear, but I lack stuff to keep the ice and water out. My fear is that I will be warm and toasty right up to the point where the rain soaks me clean through. Then I will turn blue and die in a ditch, wherein I will be discovered by a runner better dressed than I.
Any sellers of running clothes wanting an easy review in a highly respected and widely read running blog*, feel free to send your all-weather running gear my way as quickly as possible.
* These claims cannot be substantiated by data, facts, or any such un-American trickery. But it's true, I tell ya. I'm huge on the internet.
