Looking back at 2007

Last night we celebrated Christmas with my family, giving my therapist and I plenty to discuss in the new year, and today I have been in a reflective mood. Also, a year ago today, my angel of a grandmother died. And of course, with the new year approaching, now is the natural time for us to -- like Janus -- both look forward to what is to come and look back at what has happened. Here is what I was writing about a year ago.
  • I rolled my eyes at the presumption in running magazines and blogs that everybody wants to run a marathon. Now that '07 is waning, I am contemplating running a marathon. Never say never, I guess.
  • I mulled over running the Triple Crown. I didn't; I will in 2008.
  • I wrote about The Horror of the Men's Locker Room, and without intending to, I wrote the one post that gets more people to visit this site than anything else. Seriously, for some reason, Google search queries for naked and men and locker room directs the curious seeker of gay porn to yours truly. I am obviously neglecting a potential revenue stream here.
Looking forward to 2008, I have already spilled digital ink on my race plans. As far as general training goes, I don't have any specific goals beyond the ones of which I fell short this year. I want to run 1000 miles, for example. I want to get down to 167 pounds. But I am looking forward to getting out there with some new, nice gear [thanks to Santa]. My first running group meeting is Saturday morning, January 5th. I am chomping at the bit, wanting to get out there with them.

  1. Dude, after going through what you went through in the Navy, I can see why you have a complex. I personally promise to never invade your one meter empire or privacy or wear a towel around my head unless I have one around my waist, too. That post cracked me up.
