Sultry

ORN: Four miles in 43:58, which was over a minute faster than my race time last weekend. Go figure.

It was sultry tonight. The air was friggin' thick with humidity, pollution, and bugs, like some sort of biblical plague. I carried a small water bottle with about 12 ounces of water in it, thinking it would help. The added weight was a nuisance, but before long, I was glad I brought it. I took an ounce or two every half mile or so, and it really helped.

Mainly, though, I felt heavy. I ate lightly [or so I thought], anticipating the run later, but my legs still felt like tree trunks.

By the way, they are widening the main road running past my neighborhood, leveling dozens of trees and hedges of various sizes and ages. Great heaps of dirt are beside the road as are mounds of mulched wood. It's ugly and I hate it. A fast commute is handy, but I'd like my trees back, jerks.
