Method to my madness

A brief note is in order to explain why today's run was 3.8 miles instead of four or three. Simply this: I ran 3.2 miles on Monday, and my weekly miles would have had a decimal otherwise. I'm a level 20 Nerd, so I like nice round numbers. The running routes, provided by my hotel this weekend, offered me the choice of a 3.2 mile hilly run or a 3.5 mile flat run. [The routes were so pleasant and well mapped that I forgave the odd distance.] In the interest of time, since I had places to be, I chose to run the 3.2 mile course. That would mean that after all my planned runs this week, I would have had a weekly total of 15.2 or 16.2 miles. That .2 would just dangle out there, like vulgarly placed tube sock on Michaelangelo's David, mocking me. So, in the interest of achieving the perfection of zero, I ran an odd amount today.

Now, the perceptive reader will have noticed that I did run an odd amount last week. I ran 14.14 miles [11.14 miles for the year], and I admit that the .14 is out there, dangling, and furrowing my brow every day since it happened. However, I anticipate that my long run on Saturday will be more of the same since my running group goes by time rather than distance. I'll probably tack on another 5.17 or 5.20 or 5.12, so that means I will never achieve my dream-state of X.0 bliss. However, if I run 2.86 miles tomorrow, that will at least get me to zero going into the weekend. Then on Monday, I can rectify the inelegance caused by this Saturday's run.

You didn't know you were reading the diary of a madman, did you?
